Bowling Green- Eastern Missouri Commission Company
Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 03/09/12

Receipts:  2403    Week Ago:  759    Year Ago:  1298

Compared to two weeks ago when the market was sharply higher, feeder steers
weighing 400-550 lbs and 400-500 lb heifers sold steady to 5.00 lower.  Steers
weighing 550-650 lbs were not well tested but sold with a lower undertone as
many were carrying flesh and not weaned, steers weighing 650-700 lbs sold steady
to 2.00 lower and  steers weighing 700-800 lbs traded 2.00-4.00 lower.  Heifers
weighing 500-550 lbs sold near steady and 550-700 lbs sold 3.00-6.00 lower and
in spots sold 8.00 lower, 700-750 lb heifers sold mostly 3.00 lower.  Quality
was not as attractive as it was two weeks ago (mostly on heifers) and the live
cattle and feeder cattle board was sharply lower for the week adding pressure to
Friday's market.  Slaughter cows and slaughter cattle consisted of 12 percent of
the total receipts.  In the feeder cattle supply 53 percent were steers, 47
percent heifers and near 56 percent weighed over 600 lbs.  Slaughter cows traded
steady to firm with leaner type cows selling 2.00-3.00 higher.
