Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 10/19/2018

Receipts: 894    Week ago: 1525     Year ago: 786

Friday's auction was a Special Bred Cow sale with a light test of
feeders, mostly unweaned calves that sold off the pound cows that sold
earlier in the day, selling unevenly steady with last week's unweaned
calves.  Bred cows and pairs were mostly average to plain quality and
traded with moderate demand.  Slaughter cows accounted for near 27
percent of the total receipts and traded steady to 2.00 lower,
replacement cows 23 percent, slaughter steers and heifers 7 percent with
feeders accounting for 43 percent.  Feeder supply consisted of 55 percent
steers and bulls, 45 percent heifers and 18 percent weighing over 600
lbs.  Cattle on feed report was released Friday afternoon showing cattle
and calves on feed for the slaughter market in the United States for
feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 11.4 million head on

is the highest October 1 inventory since the series began in 1996.
Placements in feedlots during September totaled 2.05 million head, 5
percent below 2017.  Marketings of fed cattle during September totaled
