Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 12/19/2014
Receipts: 970 Last Week: 2465
Friday's sale was a Special Bred Cow and Heifer Sale, with only a very light
supply of feeders on offer. Feeder cattle and calves were not well tested as
there was very few of any one weight range to truly test the market, but sales
of feeders all traded with a sharply lower undertone. A very nice offering of
Bred Cows and Heifers sold with very good demand with a large crowd of buyers in
attendance. Feeder cattle this week suffered major losses, with Feeder Cattle
contracts having at one point 5 straight sessions of limit lower losses along
with sharp losses in the fat cattle trade all pressured the feeder cattle
market. Slaughter Cows sold steady to firm, with high dressing cows 1.00—4.00
higher. Bred cows and slaughter cows accounted for near 65 percent of total
receipts. In the feeder supply steers and bulls accounted for near 65 percent
of the offering with 35 percent heifers and 40 percent weighing over 600 lbs.
